In order to cultivate Colchicum autumnale L. as regular crop, there were studied the phenology, colchicine accumulation in organs, the morphological variability and the seed germination. The paper introduces results of research obtained at "Dr. P. Groza" Agronomy Institute in 1977 and 1978. The analyzed population displayed high variability in quantitative and qualitative characters. In order to stimulate seed germination there were used several temperatures and stratifications; they proved a germination between 0-16%. For drug, seeds before full maturity are recomandable.
